The West Virginia University Steel Drum Ensemble hit the road to perform for and with the students at Brookview Elementary in Foster, Boone County.

The day-long trip began at 5 a.m.  and was funded by the Bainum Family Equal Access to the Arts Fund. Sandra Schwartz, Interim Director of the WVU School of Music, and Amber Coakley, her former student, who now teaches at Brookview, worked with Chanler Bailey, ensemble director, and Michael Vercelli, director of world music.

Bailey led the WVU ensemble before turning his attention to Brookview’s own steel drum band. The students performed for their guests and then joined Bailey’s ensemble to learn "Country Roads" – eventually playing it together during an assembly.
